Over the age of workers in Québec

Many times you hear talk here about the problem with Quebec regarding the age of workers. The problem is basically the aging of the population capable of working, which can lead to a reduction in manpower required in different jobs.

The phenomenon is known as "baby boom " and is associated with increased birth rates in many countries after the Second World War (decades of 50 and 60). All these people will retire in the coming years and there is generational change needed to fill the void that left. This phenomenon is now called " papy boom.

In part (taken from the statistical office of Canada) shows the evolution of the population by broad age groups (children, people working age and elderly). One can see that the year 2010 onwards the curve of those aged 15-64 begins to drop.

I bring the subject up, as factory where I am working most of the employees have a certain age. This eventually could open up job opportunities for immigrants, but it is nevertheless worth mentioning also that the labor market is competitive and that the person should be well poised to tap into a good job.

should also add that the Quebec government, possibly to mitigate this problem, wants to punish, to put it in some way, people who retire before age 65, to press for people continue in their jobs.

In summary, I believe that this phenomenon opens up job opportunities that immigrants can be exploited in the coming years.

Internship (Stage) in Weedon

Finally I am doing training in Electro to do an internship of three weeks in a factory (which here is called " stage"), to learn more about the labor market and put into practice the knowledge acquired. I had some trouble finding the place to do the internship, I finally located myself in a factory near here (on Boulevard de Portland, Sherbrooke industrial park). The factory makes different products, but most sellers are pigments for cement. These products allow you to do architectural work where the cement is of different colors. It also sells machines to make cement mixtures automated in order to achieve different colors. Especially in the manufacture of these machines is that I was working those days. My main task was to wire electrical panels for these machines. The circuits are handled with Omron PLCs, with their input and output cards and they handled different relays and contactors to operate the various pneumatic valves that have the machine. The truth has been an interesting experience, and people have been very kind to me.

Parallel to this, I started the job search because I needed a week to complete the training. I started to apply everything simepre one you have heard about the job search (devote sufficient time, bring a resume and cover letter as the use to which it is postulated, use network, etc.) And I quickly called the first interview. For the interview I tried to also apply what they have always said to these situations: be quiet and look to the employer, show available for work to do, try to respond accurately to what you ask, etc) and tell them that I start work next Monday. I did not think were going to hire me so quickly and that before I took a little shock and I still have a week to complete the stage, so I'll finish the stage in the factory where I work.

Then I will tell you more details. For now I just have the idea that maybe the Pereira, (you can read his blog here) is right ...

I left a picture of the type of Masquin where I was working those days. The mixture leaves ready to drop it in the truck.

Wrestling

We've always been a bit fond of wrestling. Usually we see something on television, but had never been to a wrestling show. In recent days I saw in the press that they were making a wrestling show in a town near here (Weedon) and asked if the children wanted to go and they said yes, then we went on Saturday to watch the show.

The show seemed better than I expected. A lot of fighting and the quality was not much to envy what you can watch on TV. Fighters had good and bad. The latter were quite tricky, and cunning won some battles. Some bought the referees to judge behalf.

Interestingly one of the referees was a friend of ours. We had known in another context and did not know who participated in these shows. We were glad to see someone famous there.

Good thing we arrived early and then we could watch the fights closely. The trouble is that sometimes I felt prepared for some stunts. Overall we had a pretty good. Suddenly we go to the next thing will be done in East Angus next month. I leave you a video, but it was not very good quality, because I did it with the camera.
